Sophos MDR vs Clone Systems
A global, endpoint-led MDR with a breach warranty, compared with a managed SOC built around a SIEM you can host where you choose.
Sophos is a security vendor founded in 1985 and headquartered in Abingdon, England. Its Managed Detection and Response service comes in two tiers, Sophos MDR and Sophos MDR Plus, delivered 24/7/365 from what Sophos describes as nine regional hubs, usually bundled with Sophos's own endpoint protection and sold through partners and MSPs. Clone Systems is an independent security firm operating since 1998 and a PCI Approved Scanning Vendor since 2007; its Managed SOC + SIEM is one service in which analysts in the United States and the EU work every incident, with a full SIEM included and a private AI that is Clone Systems' own private, self-hosted AI. Both offer 24/7 human-led detection and response. They differ in what sits at the center (the endpoint versus the SIEM), where your data lives, and how you buy. This page relies only on what each company publishes. In short: Sophos MDR for organizations that already run Sophos and want a large global provider with a breach warranty; Clone Systems for teams with 50 or more endpoints that want a full SIEM run for them, control over where their logs live, and a person approving every AI action.
Where Sophos MDR is strong
Sophos MDR is one of the largest managed detection services in the market; Sophos reports more than 625,000 defended organizations across its products. The service follows the sun across nine regional hubs, includes unlimited threat response with no hourly caps, and comes with Sophos Endpoint or works with the endpoint protection you already run. Sophos publishes more than 500 integrations with security and IT tools at no extra cost, including Microsoft Defender, and reports an average of 89 seconds from alert to automated response. MDR Plus adds Sophos Endpoint deployed across your environment, a named Incident Response Advisor, full threat neutralization and a $1M breach protection warranty for qualifying customers. It is sold through Sophos partners and MSPs on a custom proposal. For an organization that already runs Sophos or wants a very large global provider behind its endpoints, it is a natural choice.
Where Clone Systems is different
- The SIEM is the service, not an add-on to the endpoint. Managed SOC + SIEM is built around a full SIEM that pulls logs from your network, servers, cloud, identity and security tools into one console, with the SIEM included and never sold on its own. Sophos MDR is delivered on the Sophos platform and is strongest when Sophos Endpoint is deployed; it is an endpoint-led service with integrations around it.
- You choose where your logs live. Host the SIEM in Clone Systems' data centers in Philadelphia, Athens or Limassol, with EU customers hosted in Athens, or deploy it in your own environment so your logs never leave it. Sophos MDR is cloud-delivered through Sophos Central; its brochure does not describe a self-hosted option or state data residency.
- Private AI, no outside AI service, and a person on every action. Clone Systems' AI is its own private, self-hosted AI; your logs and alerts are never sent to OpenAI, Anthropic or any outside AI provider, and every AI action is previewed and approved by a person before it runs. Sophos reports that 52% of its cases are resolved end to end by AI with no human intervention; its brochure does not say where that AI runs.
- A pricing model you can read before the call, and you buy direct. Clone Systems prices per monitored endpoint with a 50 endpoint minimum on a one-year term and says so on its site, and you deal with Clone Systems directly. Sophos does not publish MDR pricing; you request a custom proposal, usually through a partner.
- PCI ASV and penetration testing from the same company. Clone Systems has been on the PCI Council's ASV list since 2007 and sells scanning and automated penetration testing online. Sophos sells endpoint, firewall and email products; we found no PCI ASV claim on its site.

Who should choose which
Sophos MDR suits organizations that already run Sophos, want a very large global provider with a breach warranty behind their endpoints, and buy through a partner or MSP on a proposal.
Clone Systems suits organizations with 50 or more endpoints that want a full SIEM run for them as one service, need to control where their logs live, want a person approving every AI action, prefer to buy direct on a model they can read first, or already buy PCI scanning or penetration testing and want monitoring from the same company.
If you are weighing an MDR against a managed SIEM
An MDR watches what its platform can see, which is excellent when the platform is on every endpoint. A managed SIEM starts from your logs, whatever produced them, and adds the people. If your auditor asks where your log data is, which AI services touched it, and who approved a containment action, Clone Systems answers from its site: in our data centers or yours, our own private AI, and a named person every time. Our SIEM vs SOC vs EDR vs MDR vs XDR guide covers the terms.
